Debt Free Plans
You may have heard horror stories about debt free plans gone wrong. These usually involve debt free plans administered by less-than-reputable debt management companies.
Finding a Reputable Debt Management Company
Maybe you've been researching debt free plans and you've found one you think will work for you, but you have to find a debt management company to administer it. So, you decide to search the Internet and see what's out there. However, you don't know anything about these companies. You might not think it matters, but it does. (Did we mention that some of these companies are not very trustworthy?) That's not to say that there aren't any good ones out there. It just means you have to do your homework to find out which of these companies is really looking out for you.
A good place to start is with your creditors. Call them and tell them you're researching debt free plans and the companies that administer them. Ask them which companies they recommend. After all, they work with these companies on a daily basis. There are lots of people just like you who want to be debt free. If the same companies come up over and over again, you have your answer.
If that's too bold for you, check with the Better Business Bureau. Or, complete the forms that most of these companies have on their websites so you can compare their recommendations. Another good way to go is with a Christian debt management company (if you're so inclined). Most of these companies are non-profit, and they offer spiritual as well as financial counseling.
A mark of a good debt management company is offering credit counseling (or at the very least, suggesting it) with their debt free plans. Credit counseling can teach you about how to achieve debt free living. That way, you'll never have to be in debt again. You can do your part to usher in the debt free America of your dreams!
